ASSESSMENT LITERACY TEST

TEACHERS, HODs, PRINCIPALS AND SUBJECT ADVISORS ARE ENCOURAGED TO TAKE THIS BENCHMARK TEST TO ESTABLISH HOW KNOWLEDGEABLE THEY ARE IN TERMS OF ASSESSMENT LITERACY.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE RESULTS WILL ONLY BE MADE AVAILABLE TO EACH INDIVIDUAL PARTICIPANT TOGETHER WITH WHAT THEY SHOULD DO TO IMPROVE THEIR ASSESSMENT LITERACY.

Assessment Literacy is not a topic that is readily discussed in South Africa. The following extract gives us a good understanding of the importance of Assessment Literacy and how underprepared many of our teachers are especially when they enter the teaching profession.

“Those who are assessment literate have a deep understanding of the standards that will be measured and can communicate them to the learners. Furthermore, this understanding is evident when seeking and creating assessments, and the use of assessments as a tool for making short and long-term instructional decisions should be integrated into teachers’ daily practices. Assessing student learning is one of the most important facets of teaching, however, most teachers’ complete preparation programs without having to demonstrate competencies in educational assessment.” (Hudson, Mark E.. “Examining the Relationship Between Selected Grade 3-12 Teachers’ Perceived Assessment Literacy and Their Classroom Assessment Practices” (2017).
